Duncan Edmond Barnett, 88, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away in his sleep on November 24, 2016.
Duncan was born August 2, 1928 in Hamilton County, Texas, one of eight children of Earl Marion and Eva Alma (Hodges) Barnett. He graduated from Gustine High School and served in the Navy for 3 years, 2 months, and 11 days (as he was fond of saying). He attended Tarleton State University and University of North Texas until he realized he could teach himself. He married Reva Rae Bonds of Nocona, TX on November 1, 1952. While working for Haliburton, he taught himself accounting and passed the CPA exams, going to start a private practice which he continued for 50 years. As a CPA he served as Assistant County Auditor for Dallas County, as a Supervisor of Accounting for Parkland Hospital, and in private practice. In 1963, he saw JFK drive down the streets of downtown Dallas just minutes before he was killed. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed camping, boating, and rock hunting, and being auctioneer and playing 42 at family reunions. He also enjoyed rooting for the Cowboys. He was a member of the Lion's Club and the Dallas Gem and Mineral Society. He made people smile and laugh wherever he went.
Duncan lived in Texas all his life: born in unincorporated Hamilton County, moving to Gainesville, Wichita Falls, Port Lavaca, Carrollton, and Farmers Branch.

He is survived by his wife, Reva; his daughters, Brenda Overton and husband Phillip, Karen Giles and husband Travis, and Debra Fournerat and husband Robert; his grandchildren, Kristy Overton, Michael Overton and wife Tiffany, Jessica Giles/Boardman and husband Trey, and Tracy Juarez and husband Joe; and his great-grandchildren, Mona, Sandra, and Katherine Juarez; and two siblings, Earl Barnett and Jenna Vee James.

He was predeceased by five siblings: Adelle May, Arveta Dark, Marie Stifflemire, Merida Barnett, and Erwin Barnett.
A visitation will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home on Monday, November 28, 2016, 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 10:30 am. Please consider a donation to the Cancer Society of America.
In remembering him, we remember how much he enjoyed making people smile. He would often recite this poem:

Wished I was a rock sitting on a hill
Doing nothing all day long, just sitting still
I wouldn't eat, I wouldn't sleep, I wouldn't even wash
Just sit still a thousand years and rest myself, by gosh.
